Forbes.com, 4/7/08 — Coping With a Windowless Workplace
A corner office, with sprawling views through crystal-clear windows, is still one of the ultimate status symbols at work.
But what if you work somewhere that doesn’t have any windows? You might think it’s like a scene out of Office Space, but it all depends on how your workplace is designed. Just because there isn’t natural light doesn’t mean it’s a dreary dungeon.
Take Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. Like most casinos, windows are sparse and located far from the gambling floor. After all, they have to maintain the aura of nightlife even during the sunniest spring day. Card dealers, restaurant staff, special event folks and even back office employees in marketing and accounting have no access to natural light, except during their meal breaks.
