Interior Design, Best of Residential 2013 — M / Y  360°

High design comes to the high seas via the M/Y 360° luxury superyacht. Built in 2003 by renowned Italian shipyard ISA, the yacht was recently given a stately makeover by Yvonne Colacion. When the new owner approached the designer, the vessel was in dire need of an overhaul, despite coveted features like twin sweeping staircases, a clean-lined superstructure, and beautiful interior millwork. Bucking the industry trend to embrace either a hypermodern look or a staid traditional one, the team celebrated the glory days of yachting with a fresh take on the casual elegance of Art Deco luminaries Edgar Brandt and Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann.

Working from the outside in, the team visually adjusted window lines to lengthen the profile and obsessed over the perfect gray to enhance the all-white hull’s graceful curves. Strategic contrasts helped define the interior quarters as well, creating the illusion of more space: Touches of ebony now accent the original medium-toned woodwork. Colacion Studio vetted every material, finish, and furnishing for sturdiness and sensory response value, from the main salon’s red-and-white wool carpet with accompanying zebra-print dining chairs to new built-ins and wenge blinds. Custom products and services were sourced from around the world, befitting a vessel that so artfully navigates the globe.
